Tiny Altars23 Mar – 09 Apr 2024
“Tiny Altars” is conceptualised by Spanish artist Elvira Martos around the creation of an installation with the collective reflections from 45 tiny altars, finding a physical space recreated within the details of her own conceptual work of art, and expressing her personal experience of diving into these inquiries of the heart and the soul.
The opening was a captivating blend of artistic mastery on display, a heart touching poetry recital by Maijo Mora and spiritual contemplation through a joyful musical performance by a highly spirited group from Vrindavan that left a lasting impression on all who attended and joined in. The fusion of creativity and spirituality was profound, underscoring the transformative power of art to uplift the soul and inspire introspection.
Artist statement:
What would constitute your own altar of priorities? Which are the most important things for you?
In many cultures and religions, we find the concept of the domestic altar as a meeting point established in homes, linking the divine with our daily lives, and that was the starting point of this exhibition.
Tiny Altars is a collective artistic project dedicated to spiritual self-knowledge and the materialisation of a consciousness acquired through art; thanks to a process of intimate and brutally honest dialogue. Forty-five participants between the ages of 3 and 90 from different countries, professional artists or not, embarked on this journey with me, portraying our samskaras, in search of that to which we devote our lives, our most personal gods.
We worship our relationships, honour and revere our minds and bodies, we bow down to our occupations, and pray endlessly with rosaries of infinite desires.
And within our everyday altars, those persons, objects, or ideas just replaced the essence of divine presence. We are ourselves those who are entirely offered and sacrificed for our own delight.
