The Pebbles We Collect02 – 07 Sept 2024
Drawing inspiration from the intricate social behaviours observed in certain avian species, particularly the penguin’s pebbling behaviour, “The Pebbles We Collect” presents an exploration of the subtle yet profound gestures that permeate human interaction. It seeks to illuminate the significance of these seemingly trivial acts in shaping the fabric of our interpersonal relationships and emotional landscape.
At its core, this exhibition delves into the essence of human connection and reciprocity, inviting contemplation on the intrinsic value of small gestures of kindness and empathy. Through a lens of philosophical, psychological, and spiritual inquiry, we unravel the complexities of these interpersonal exchanges, shedding light on their role in fostering bonds of kinship and solidarity.
In a world characterized by rapid technological advancement and fleeting interactions, “The Pebbles We Collect” serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring significance of human connection. Through art, we endeavour to elevate the mundane to the sublime, celebrating the beauty of life’s small moments and the profound impact of gestures of kindness and compassion.

Rooted in the quintessence of Korean culture and nurtured to life with her experiences of the world, her body of work beckons the audience in.
‘Prelude by Yun Dongju
To look up at the sky and have no shame,
Even the slightest wind among the leaves caused me pain,
With a heart that sings to the stars, I must love all things that are dying,
And I must walk the path that has been given to me,
Even tonight, the stars brush against the wind.’
Inspired by the depth of literature, her artistic expressions are synonymous with the lingering warmth of a shared smile. The delicate interplay of ink and paper in Jang Hee Mun’s hands creates a landscape where time stands still, and the simple act of collecting pebbles becomes a metaphor for gathering the fragments of memory and emotion that define our lives. Her art is a quiet homage to the enduring allure of cultural heritage, with each artwork a whispered story of love, kindness, and connection.
