Inherent state of Mind 20 Dec 2023
Artist statement:
Currently, I am interested in the consciousness of the individual and its natural state – the Inherent state of Mind. Both as a process and as a result.
The search for the natural state, the process of finding it (liberation) and the result of finding it, as well as the visual expression of these states, form the basis of contemporary drawing. I am also interested in the processes of evolution and involution of the drawing process itself, exploration and experimentation. When the same recognizable object is present, it is expressed in several inclusive expressions.
I am interested in the possibilities of drawing and its processes to transform and evolve into other visual expressions (other forms of fine art) and sensory experiences.
During the time at ONKAF residency, I am continuously working in this chosen direction, impressed by the Indian atmosphere, which I believe leaves the scents and visual traces on my art works embodied here.

About artist:
Born in Kaunas, Lithuania, in 1972, Aušra Kleizaitė is a contemporary visual artist known for her expressive works on paper and conceptual textile. Her body of work reflects Aušra’s interest in human condition and various aspects of human life: soul, spirit, and social interactions. Her creative process is based on four main principles – light, idea, story and aesthetic. Trained as a printmaker and a textile artist, she creates multi-layered drawings that explore spirit and nature – culture, relationships, emotions, and everyday life.
Aušra uses simple materials, such as paper, charcoal, pastel – to tell complex stories. Her artistic practice is an endless process of exploration in the drawing’s ability to express and reflect a full range of ideas and emotions: war and peace, death and life, hate and love, failure and belief.
