Dasay Soy
My works are about finding myself in this existing world. As we know, in this parallel world there are different aspects of life. Where everyone is struggling or dealing with their own selves in different ways. But there is a question that always rises in my mind “Who am I and what is my existence?” My works are all about finding the answers to these questions; I paint in order to find myself. All my works are the result of the process of self-exploration.

The quest of finding oneself in a city is invariably imbued with a sense of calm and chaos. A city might appear to be ubiquitous yet it carries fascinating narratives—social, cultural, personal. It is the same city that gives Dasay the force to paint distinct forms that are free in themselves. His wry musings on the city, the political and the personal of living in it, the opposing concepts of nature and the city, the flux of humans, each dealing with his/her/their own struggle for survival in different ways, and the constant comparing the city life with the village that he hails from creates the most abiding contrast in his works. Through his painted universe of a city, he tries to find himself in others and fills the void of being away from home. He responds to the city in his own personal way—and the harmony and dichotomy between the micro and macrocosmic worlds within a city create a strange sense of time that prevails in Dasay’s work.
