I like India and India likes me19 Oct – 29 Oct 2019

Thomas Rieck

Meandering through the lanes of exploration’s German artist Thomas Rieck’s art practice display an idiosyncratic response to stimuli of all nature. Be it a deformed dead body, photograph from manual or script of any language, he recognizes all of them as mere visual images. Thus creating a metamorphosis of amorphous forms sectionally crossing the trajectories of untrodden dimensions.
“I like India and India likes me” is his first show in the subcontinent after years of travel association. Thomas has been enthralled by the visual opulence of India and the osmotic effect it has on its visitors. At 21 he embarked on his very first trip from Hamburg to Delhi via road, he recalls his subsequent trips as a cathartic experience where he impounded on the majestic marvels of the country. He has been influenced by the German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer whose works widened his comprehension of the intellectual and cultural ties shared between the two nations.
Through this show he attempts to converge his creative energies and accumulated experiences into distinctive forms of artworks. The organic instinctive nature of his practice is rolled out in the gallery space as it navigates through eccentric materials and techniques. He creates a riveting escapade of subliminal scribbles on the walls receding into an alternate space of his vision of India.
